Music

Music & Dances of Kathmandu valley.

Newar civilization climaxed under the Malla kings (13th – 18th centuries), whose adversary kingdoms of Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur contended in architectural, artistic and cultural splendor; several rulers themselves exceeded expectations as performers, artists, arrangers,, poets and art patrons. Newer autonomy was brought to a sudden end by Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha, who conquered the Valley in 1768-9. Until to day, the Newars maintain many parts of their way of life, including an elaborate round of urban rituals in which music and dance play a large part.

Contemporary weights definitely guarantee that Newar society in undergoing rapid change and decline, but in 1987 a survey of Bhaktapur (70,000 inhabitants) identified 220 music and dance groups still functioning.

Execution in Newar culture fills in as an assortment of custom and amusement capacities, establishing intimate connections between ritual, space, time, and society, and between the material and otherworldly realms: each genre is performed at specific ritual occasions, in specific places (temple, monastery, street, public square, river crossing, paddy field, cremation ground), a ritually determined times (according to the lunar and solar calendars), and by specific cases and associations, in honor of one or more specific gods, goddesses, Boddhisattvas, etc.

|A Universal feature is the worship of the god of music and dance, Nasadyo, by all Newar communities. He resides in shrines and in musical instruments. Offerings to him, accompanied by special music, must precede and conclude any music or dance performance, or any period of musical apprenticeship.

Newar music and dance are almost exclusively performed by men. Apart from the Jugi tailor-musician caste, performers are not musicians of dancers by profession. Some genres or instruments are restricted to members of a particular caste, but performance may require intercaste co-operation, as for example when Jugis are required to provide melodic accompaniment on Shawns for Jyapu farmers drums or dance performances. Many performance types are organized by societies (guthi). Thus a particular guthi may be responsible for providing daily music at a particular temple; a land holding, sometimes a royal donation, would have provided the guthi with income for the maintenance of instruments, copying of song-books and other expenses, but these holdings have now been abolished by the central government, and the surviving music guthis are impoverished.

Science and Technology - Wireless Network

                                                               Wireless Network

Science and Technology, We live in the digital age. We are at a stage where most of our daily functions involve the transfer of packets of data in the form of is and so from one place to another.

These packets were transferred primarily via wires. However, as the world started getting connected, it was found that wires are not reliable when transmitting over a huge distance. Similarly, the trans-oceanic transmission was also impossible at that time. It was then that a method to transmit data in the form of electromagnetic waves was found. With a receiver and a transmitter, one could send data from one corner of the world to the other corner without wires. Since electromagnetic waves travel at the speed of light, the data transfer is instant. This transmission of data without the aid of wires is called a wireless network. Wireless is not to be confused with Cordless as cordless means the use of a device with its own batteries.

Science and Technology, The first use of wireless technology were in 1898 A.D. when Nikola Tesla used a remote control to control a boat. However, at that time people were not aware of radio waves and consequently thought Tesla was a magician controlling the boat with his mind. Ironically, the first massive use of wireless was in the transmission of enemy movements from behind enemy lines. The message was sent in the form of radio signals. However, anyone with a receiver could receive these messages and thus the military came up with its own codes in order to encrypt them. These Codes are known as Morse Codes.

However, the wireless sector has developed to such an extent that wireless devices are now incorporated in almost all stages of our lives. Even when we don’t notice it, it has made our lives significantly better. Remote controls, Wi-fi, DECT phones, emails, internet are all types of wireless networks we use daily. We can chat, we can call and we can video conference with people in another corner of the world. Wireless has been included in homes, offices, in parks, and even in the very cars, we drive. We have wireless game controllers that give more mobility to players when playing. Types of wireless network LAN makes it easier for the transfer of data between computers in the same network.

The uses of wireless have changed over time and there are signs for some more changes. Even though there is such a change, the definition of wireless, transmission of data without the aid of wires, will always remain the same.

Sport - Football - Movie & Enetertainment

                                                      Entertainment - Football Sport

So, is it a movie? A documentary? A soft-film(movie) sponsored by some UN agencies? Or is the name of a new magazine in town? Well, it is a television episodic drama, and as the name suggests, it is about a football team ( well the title doesn’t suggest the ‘form of sports’ specifically, but because ‘football’ is the most loved game; the writer took the freedom to state it 'in actuality') and‘Hamro’ in the title suggests that it is very much a communal affair.  Since it is not ‘Mero Team’; so, it is very clear that the characters in the movie make a collective front-they come together, fight for a common dream, face hurdles, but since they have their hearts set on the goal, despite their personal differences they stain success. So, is it a Nepali version of  ‘Chakde India’, ‘ Remember the Titans’, ‘Miracle’, ‘same group and background having the same undertone- ‘Sportsmanship, solidarity, success’? By the looks of it, the movie proclaims to have all that.

Every romantic movie has the same old trend of Progression – boy meets girl, there is a clash; as the plot develops they fall for each other, there is friction, and the climax is almost always the same with most ending on a happy note. If all the chefs in the world are given the same ingredients, each with his/her individualistic touch, skill, passion for food, makes the cuisine different – a signature dish.
